COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been exposed to COVID 19 or diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition on the COVID 19 Notification Form (available via a link on the Student Code of Conduct COVID19 webpage). Course Information
Description An analysis of the economy as a whole including measurement and determination of Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply, national income, inflation, and unemployment. Other topics include international trade, economic growth, business cycles, and fiscal policy and monetary policy.

Learning Outcomes Students, upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Explain the role of scarcity, specialization, opportunity cost and cost/benefit analysis in economic decision-making.

Identify the determinants of supply and demand; demonstrate the impact of shifts in both market supply and demand curves on equilibrium price and output.

Define and measure national income and rates of unemployment and inflation.

Identify the phases of the business cycle and the problems caused by cyclical fluctuations in the market economy.

Define money and the money supply; describe the process of money creation by the banking system and the role of the central bank.

Construct the aggregate demand and aggregate supply model of the macro economy and use it to illustrate macroeconomic problems and potential monetary and fiscal policy solutions.

Explain the mechanics and institutions of international trade and their impact on the macro economy.

Define economic growth and identify sources of economic growth.

Additional points may be added for participation and attendance. Grading will be in accordance with the Student Assignment Completion Agreement executed by students.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies Students are to report absences in advance to the extent possible or as soon as practical. Students are not automatically entitled to make up examinations or other work missed due to absence. Make-up examinations etc. may carry an academic penalty if determined appropriate by the instructor.
Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Students are expected to attend classes as noted.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
